Monument Erected to ‘Console the Souls’ of Dead Insects

A monument to the insects people have killed now stands at Kenchoji, a temple in Kamakura near Tokyo, reports Japan’s news outlet Kyodo. It was erected by Takeshi Yoro, a respected anatomist who, since his retirement 20 years ago, is known for his interest in insects. The best selling author of “Baka no Kabe” or “What a Fool Believes,” told The Japan Times, “There is so much you can tell from looking at insects.” He says he hopes the monument will “console the souls” of the insects he collected through the years. He also wants those who see it to think about the environment.
